a look at the loo - bathroom reveal

The loo? Yes, I obviously have Downton on the brain (does anyone else think that season went rather quickly?) So as promised I am supplying a good old before and after for your Monday viewing pleasure.<br /><br />Updates to the bathroom were planned, executed and photographed. Let's take a look.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghPWRIc2uloiSK6N1cP3ur6s-T_Mh4SPB1RHWM1S9MvM7g2v6-61x0qLH2rqq8OLHBvWdjThmaWnpEXNoN_yeaevaAr8MxDJ3LPqDiYH97aKEJvRuBhpy-Hi93UVWrWFiAYuCLagB9ag-J/s1600/LBDBathroomRefresh.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="444" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEghPWRIc2uloiSK6N1cP3ur6s-T_Mh4SPB1RHWM1S9MvM7g2v6-61x0qLH2rqq8OLHBvWdjThmaWnpEXNoN_yeaevaAr8MxDJ3LPqDiYH97aKEJvRuBhpy-Hi93UVWrWFiAYuCLagB9ag-J/s1600/LBDBathroomRefresh.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />As <a href="http://thelittleblackdoor.blogspot.com/2014/02/bathroom-refresh-plan.html" target="_blank">I mentioned last week</a>, a recharge for the bathroom that remained untouched for (gasp) almost seven years was long overdue. (Take a look at her major renovation <a href="http://thelittleblackdoor.blogspot.com/p/bathroom.html" target="_blank">here</a>) Nothing drastic, just new paint, fixtures, shower curtain, towels and accessories. That's how I sell these changes to the hubs by the way - always use the phrase 'nothing drastic'.<br /><br />To go back to the very beginning, here is what she looked like when we moved in.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy3pOXYZ8LtTQIrsHelQcKCyepnmHzsoW_OC3j1swFBcbDuZ8mWO1ygE6gz23bhIOV9dHR5bHQU316Sn24BpbAASYm4tInS7Et1vlThPr740lTs34cR6UqlFxishOvxP3ZCbgCUOGuNA0p/s1600/-17.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="464" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiy3pOXYZ8LtTQIrsHelQcKCyepnmHzsoW_OC3j1swFBcbDuZ8mWO1ygE6gz23bhIOV9dHR5bHQU316Sn24BpbAASYm4tInS7Et1vlThPr740lTs34cR6UqlFxishOvxP3ZCbgCUOGuNA0p/s1600/-17.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />And this is what she looked like until very recently.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLbtm0uV21Pb672TKU99AoeDxJTGrWiZCjw38eq2j4gJg0wR0GKsNjUIHLH_HQ3zoriENT00NpDygkaEZ7ejqt29PwD_KBBHGPMgKwP7O2EOUKNwIdN7FfSUpN3Lho_9zFlSJ0WmY9mn7s/s1600/PA300410.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiLbtm0uV21Pb672TKU99AoeDxJTGrWiZCjw38eq2j4gJg0wR0GKsNjUIHLH_HQ3zoriENT00NpDygkaEZ7ejqt29PwD_KBBHGPMgKwP7O2EOUKNwIdN7FfSUpN3Lho_9zFlSJ0WmY9mn7s/s1600/PA300410.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />And here she is in her pretty new outfit.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1bZsJVAMe4PyagQ3_8ZRqAjToqAV77f_4cZ5-3mPdpsOGpNL449FEnbWRLx1kNxYezpycGxVdxAGC1kKYk7bKNtrVCINwYbx6mRBIOUXrS01PoerZKHAUFkXGUryYyHO-1r2vNC5thchO/s1600/BathroomRefresh.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEh1bZsJVAMe4PyagQ3_8ZRqAjToqAV77f_4cZ5-3mPdpsOGpNL449FEnbWRLx1kNxYezpycGxVdxAGC1kKYk7bKNtrVCINwYbx6mRBIOUXrS01PoerZKHAUFkXGUryYyHO-1r2vNC5thchO/s1600/BathroomRefresh.jpg" width="354" /></a></div><br /><div>The space may be small but I'll milk it for all the pictures I can. Well I never did find one that suited, so I followed the lead of the great <a href="http://www.pinterest.com/pin/6896205648982513/" target="_blank">Tobi Fairley</a> and had one made.<br /><br />Thank heavens I have a wonderful aunt who can sew like the wind. She did a beautiful job and because of the custom work I was able to have her make it just the right length so I could take the curtain rod all the way to the ceiling. It is amazing what it has done for the room. The space feels bigger, brighter and well...taller. i've got my sources

One of the best parts about the <a href="http://thelittleblackdoor.blogspot.com/p/one-room-challenge.html" target="_blank">ORC</a> is hearing everyones comments. It is so interesting what people notice and what sparks their interest. I've had several source requests so I thought I'd lay it all out nice and neat, just like this room was - for about an hour. I am happy to report it is now perfectly trashed, and will probably stay that way for the foreseeable future. Also, the sun finally came out so I got some more true-to-life pictures.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiefdTD0z76s3dQ-ztNIkUJ1RNxwYTTn7lXX5THU9d6TTMBJPd0SZdWE3ZgQXBsGFcyWkHr7hpdK9Sf9sDp4cg7qNv_yuDMxiXLYmIqdCfsNv734Rb8B9R1B_X_RZfVZ6WldYcfaSZ1JnDN/s1600/familyroomfinal.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="590" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiefdTD0z76s3dQ-ztNIkUJ1RNxwYTTn7lXX5THU9d6TTMBJPd0SZdWE3ZgQXBsGFcyWkHr7hpdK9Sf9sDp4cg7qNv_yuDMxiXLYmIqdCfsNv734Rb8B9R1B_X_RZfVZ6WldYcfaSZ1JnDN/s640/familyroomfinal.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">The rug towards the front of the room is an outdoor rug from <a href="http://www.homedecorators.com/P/Saddlestitch_All-Weather_Area_Rug/840/" target="_blank">Home Decorators</a> and I love it. I may or may not have spilled a small bit of paint on it and it wiped up as though it were water. (thank god it was latex). paisley is the pattern for fall

I'm craving a paisley fix. For some reason when the weather starts to get cold I want cute scarfs, a pair of boots, hot chocolate from Starbucks and some paisley eye candy. I've always loved it since my mom let my sister and I pick the coolest ever purple paisley wallpaper for our room back in the super awesome 80s. Good times.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEgRUjLiO5FMifaEswCtsNUMCavbSed4nZBduzd0dIh7SzkORf3oHHcInWJVC-GU9oh-ObpjhgphkogHlgwVISZh64TcegUYaiodo84aXbTWPWkYNbgs0q41vOrDPe5NkXz7vHau8CuyGL2D/s1600/a46b28c639be71bb070170147886eac5.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; cane chair makeover

Good gracious. I've been cussing more than usual and my hands look like I've been working on a barge. This can mean only one thing - I'm reupholstering again.<br /><br />Remember <a href="http://thelittleblackdoor.blogspot.com/2012/06/watch-out-im-armed.html" target="_blank">these beauties</a>?<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPEThnWMQZttxJTHuk6fSV_4WhK-dAAcuqEhDN6zl4qkpOaT1Ic1ng9fcHf4GM7ON4CCFQP205qPcIVeobHZ0_yidPm2lQkXrseYObbbOXFEUafv21xpKsFA0ehd5hzXbWzvwv-qhjtSlA/s1600/chairs.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="526" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEiPEThnWMQZttxJTHuk6fSV_4WhK-dAAcuqEhDN6zl4qkpOaT1Ic1ng9fcHf4GM7ON4CCFQP205qPcIVeobHZ0_yidPm2lQkXrseYObbbOXFEUafv21xpKsFA0ehd5hzXbWzvwv-qhjtSlA/s640/chairs.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />Oy what a labor of love they became. They took far longer than I had planned. I'm distracted easily. But wahoo, they are finished. Now no sense in prolonging the reveal even longer, let's get to it.<br /><br />First step was stripping both chairs, some very light sanding and then painting them black. For some reason I had always envisioned these painted white, but my mom suggested black and I think it was a rather smart choice. Good work Jan.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidyvX87kuxxfCFn8weAAnHh-6sVztz83ChzcB5bfoY0Ch2TJA7rxywAadm8pBBR0DaMqTWr-KEKmX3hDxIN84AkIfRfIIZRcouTkA26vrQwnGXrGiJ10JB3Xva1WMe1HqPHt8x5GaTvyYK/s1600/LBDChairbefore.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://blogger.googleusercontent.com/img/b/R29vZ2xl/AVvXsEidyvX87kuxxfCFn8weAAnHh-6sVztz83ChzcB5bfoY0Ch2TJA7rxywAadm8pBBR0DaMqTWr-KEKmX3hDxIN84AkIfRfIIZRcouTkA26vrQwnGXrGiJ10JB3Xva1WMe1HqPHt8x5GaTvyYK/s640/LBDChairbefore.jpg" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">newly painted chairs against my newly painted walls</td></tr></tbody></table>Now compared to <a href="http://thelittleblackdoor.blogspot.com/2012/04/now-you-really-can-take-seat.html" target="_blank">the couch</a>, this project was a dream. No guessing on what part of the furniture to start with or thinking ahead about how each section would relate to the other. Nope. There is a seat and there is a back. Just a matter of covering the old base and stapling. Just like wrapping a present. Or riding a bike. Pick your analogy.
